The two of us, Tobias Kaupp
and Joachim Fessler, started off a Mofa tour in Australia in February 2003. “What the heck is a Mofa?” You might be wondering. It’s a small motor scooter with a maximum speed of 25 kph
and a 1.5 horsepower engine! In order to make the task a bit more challenging we decided to take two “oldtimers”: A Hercules M4 , 1981 and a Zündapp M25, 1970. Additionally, to reduce the high speed a little bit, we were towing paragliding gear in
a bike trailer.
Yet before the first meters had been ridden in Australia, the trip turned out to be a real challenge concerning management, technics and our nerves. Purchasing Mofas, getting paperwork
done, booking air freight, organising boxes, getting import approval, first test drives in freezing Germany… After the Mofas arrived in Australia we had to struggle with the customs and the quarantine
first. Next was the assembly of the scooters followed by a 6-weeks and 1721 km trip with many break-downs, great events, interesting people and beautiful paragliding sites – the highlights among them were
Manilla and Rainbow Beach. It’ been an unforgetable adventure which is documented in our
Tour History
Thanks a lot to our supporters
in Germany and Australia. Thanks also to Dunja Welzel who designed different faces for our blue lobster in the category of lobster art. Acknowledgements go to Guido Schmid
who gave a helpful hand in servicing the Mofas and to Janosch Junger for updating our web site during the trip.
Have fun with this stuff! Tobi and Jogi |
